The Augustine Grill

Hi to all,
Donna and I would like to tell you about a dinner we had at a great place In Castle Rock,

The name of the restaurant is
The Augustine Grill
519 Wilcox Street
Castle Rock, Co. 80104
303-814-3663

Menu is on the web site

This Victorian home built in 1902 has a small kitchen and bar. However the food that is served out of this small kitchen is as fine as it gets.  The owners, Anna and Mike grab your  attention the minuet you walk through the door with the heavenly aroma coming from the unseen kitchen, When you walk in there is a room on the right that can be used by a family or small party, to the left and then pass the bar is the main dining room, the feeling you get when walking in was like the times I would go to Grandma’s house for the  holidays, the fine linen, tables set to perfection,  the room clean and bright with all the flatware and crystal shining in the light the smell of cooking that makes your mouth water.
The wine cellar has some of the best California wines along with New Zealand, France, Spain, Italy, and Chili.

The establishment is very easy to like and the staff is friendly and helpful. In the warmer months there is outdoor seating in the back and on the side for alfresco dinning.
Donna and I started with a cocktail, a dirty Vodka Martini and I had a Manhattan.
While we were looking at the menu a server came to the table and offered   slices of Italian bread smothered with melted Swiss cheese mixed with mayonnaise and Agaiso cheese, it was just something the chef made up and not on the menu, and if you’re lucky enough you may get to try it.
We decided to forgo the Appetizers, although they can be tasted with your eyes as you read them.
Donna had a cup of Tomato Basil soup and I went for the spinach salad either will tempt the appetite,
I had the Rack of lamb, now this is Pan seared New Zealand lamb with honey and brown sugar glaze, red wine and butter sauce and scalloped potatoes. The meat fell of the bone and mixed with the wine sauce was delightful.

Donna had probably the best tasting dish of the evening Seared Sesame Tuna
This is Sashimi quality Ahi tuna steak covered with sesame seeds, seared very rare,  with cilantro vinaigrette & soy butter, more than likely better than any steak we have had to date,  This is the Kobe Beef of fish and if you like GOOD tuna this is your dish.

Appetizers run from $9 to $12 a plate, soups and salads from $4 to $14 entrees are $13 to $36.
I would suggest going to the web site and seeing the menu and make reservations on weekend nights.
Dinner will take one and a half to two and a half hours to enjoy. Great dinning should not be rushed.
This is another little romantic hideaway treasure tucked away in Castle Rock Colorado
I am sure you will enjoy.   Send ant comments to   sjrago@comcast.net

Until next time Eat and live well
